General Contractor: HITT Contracting
Architect: Fox Architects
When you enter the headquarters of American Forest & Paper Association you are immediately embraced by a unique collection of materials which showcase the design by Fox Architects in collaboration with HITT Contracting and Gaithersburg Architectural Millwork. The Association advocates for the wood products manufacturing industry which is evident throughout the project. Looking around, you see several areas of reclaimed hardwood flooring from local Virginia barns. This reclaimed wood is strategically placed throughout the space in the elevator lobby, feature walls and on countertops. Graphics and signage were used throughout the space to display and highlight the different product uses and features of wood product manufacturing. Corrugated cardboard is used as a design element throughout the space, showcased in areas such as the lighting shades in the café. Responsible forestry is key for future generations and recycling wood products as seen at the American Forest & Paper Association headquarters is their way of contributing to those endeavors. This project was a recipient of the WBC Craftsmanship Award.
